I had such fun showing you my top 5 outdoor Halloween decorations, I thought I’d show you more! Plus, one can never have too many Halloween decorations.
All items available at Oriental Trading.
Cracked Tombstone Prop. No outdoor Halloween setup is complete without a graveyard. No graveyard is complete without an escaping skeleton! What kid doesn’t love a spooky graveyard on Halloween night?
Skull Pathway Lights. Don’t forget to light up the pathway to your front door! You don’t want kids tripping over your decorations. Light up your path the Halloween way with these lighted skulls.
Pumpkin Spider. Place a small pumpkin on top of this spider and have a front porch that’s really crawling with action.
Light Up Ghost. Every graveyard scene needs a ghost, right? Stick a few of these in your front yard, light them up and watch the neighborhood kids approach with cautious delight.
Creepy Willow Tree. In need of a spooky, barren tree for Halloween? Do you live in parts of the world where Fall doesn’t exist? The best way to create that eerie dead tree effect is with this prop. Of course if you have the real thing, that is preferred!
There is a lot of Halloween related music out there. Most CDs you will find in party stores will feature the usual ‘Monster Mash’ and the like. I’d like to introduce you to a different take on Halloween music. In this case, an instrumental movie score.
It’s hard to review music without the reader listening to it, so check out the video below for part of this score.
The score to Sleepy Hollow by Danny Elfman definitely stands out as one of my most inspirational pieces of music. It is both haunting and beautiful, inspiring and foreboding. There are pieces in this score that will truly send shivers down your spine. But most importantly, there are moments that, when you close your eyes, you can place yourself directly into a sleepy little town on Halloween. For me, no other piece of music comes close to creating images of Halloween in my mind. I hope it does the same for you.
Put this score on and truly listen to it. Best of all, it is all instrumental so it is safe for the entire family , if not a little spooky in some spots. But hey, that’s what Halloween is all about. Better yet, put this score on on Halloween night while the kids come trick or treating to your door.
Again, words cannot do it justice, so give it a listen below and then purchase it at Amazon.com
There is nothing quite like a Halloween party. Whether its bobbing for apples, carving pumpkins or eating caramel apples, there is never a dull moment for kids and parents. Here are a few spooky ideas for a hauntingly great Halloween party! (How many more Halloween clichés can I post this month? I think I’m running out!)
Halloween Music Collection by Midnight Syndicate. Put on this CD and get ready for some of the creepiest music you will ever hear. Midnight Syndicate is a band that plays nothing but creepy music for Halloween. This CD is sure to send some chills down your spine.
Jack-o’-lantern…lanterns. Okay, the name leaves a little to be desired. But hey, these paper lanterns are a very easy way to add Halloween flair to your backyard or front porch. They are also practical in that they provide light! How about that?
Jack-O’-Lantern Chair Covers. I’m sensing a jack-o’-lantern theme here. Apparently I really like them. These are a clever way to add some Halloween to your otherwise boring and bare dining room table chairs.
Little Monsters Photo Door Banner. What happens every time you go to a fair or theme park and your kids see those wooden cutouts to stick their face in? They run to it every time. And demand lots of pictures to be taken at every single one they encounter. Now you can have one in your own home! Seriously, kids love this and your house will forever be known as the photo house.
Skeleton Butler with Tray. Place this guy jus outside of your kitchen, bar, or wherever it is you serve your drinks for the party. Place a few drinks on here and you have your own skeleton butler holding drinks for every one. The parents will love having easy access to drinks and the kids will get a kick out of a 5 foot skeleton greeting them (and they can’t reach the drinks).
Frankenweenie Stand Up. Okay, I’m putting this one in here because I love Tim Burton and I think this is a great idea. What kid wouldn’t want Sparky to attend his Halloween party?
As part of my 31 Days of Halloween festivities I will be holding several contests throughout the month, including a movie giveaway, jack-o’-lantern contest, and costume contest.
Today I will be giving away copies of two fantastic Halloween inspired films, Hotel Transylvania and Monster House. Details below!
Bookmark this post so you can come back all week to edit your entry or tell your friends.
NOTE: Film will be in your country’s Region Code, so everyone from around the globe is eligible!
Throughout the month I will be reviewing unusually creepy Halloween candy. Anyone can give out the usual M&M, Snickers, Milky Way, Twix mix. Stand out by giving a unique treat that will both repulse and excite the kids in your neighborhood.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Gummy Ear Wax! Nothing like a little ear wax to finish off a fine meal. These candies come in a white package bearing a picture of an ear and proudly stating in ear wax yellow ‘Gummy Ear Wax’. The bag alone is enough to turn the stomachs of many but, chances are, the kids in your neighborhood are tough. A little gummy ear wax is not enough to phase them. Make sure they take a closer look at the gummies. They are a little cloudy, all irregular shapes and the rough texture definitely resembles ear wax. Go ahead and pop one in your mouth! What’s it like? Well, a little tough and chewy at the same time. Surprisingly, ear wax tastes like lemon! Who knew? So, while the texture may gross some people out, the flavor is surprisingly inviting. Get the neighborhood talking this Halloween by handing out bags of ear wax!
I spent the better part of the day decorating for Halloween. Since my entire blog is devoted to this wonderful time of the year, I figured you might like to see what Halloween decorations I have. So, without further ado, here are some photos of my decor.
Do you live in a place where weather (or HOA rules) won’t let you put Halloween decorations outside? As a follow up to my Top 5 Outdoor Halloween Decorations, here are 5 indoor decorations that will have your guests shrieking with ghoulish delight! (I hit my cliche quota for the day)
All decorations available at Oriental Trading.
Spooky Lighted Lace Curtain. Hang this up in your window to set a spooky scene. I’ve also hung it on doors and mirrors to create a similarly eerie effect.
Haunted House Night Light. I like to put this in the guest bathroom or bedroom. It’s always a fun way to get your guests in the mood for Halloween!
Halloween Bathroom Collection. Again, stick this in your guest bathroom. If your guests and family are not in the mood for Halloween, well you just gave them no choice! Plus, kids seem to love when the bathroom is decorated for holidays. I’m not sure why, but it is true. I suppose it is also a good way to get your kids to use the bathroom more often.
Witch Shelf Sitter. Not everything has to be creepy! Add a little bit of cute to your Halloween decor (so as to not scare your kids too much) with this plush witch.
Halloween Taper Candles. Give the kids a reason to sit around your dinner table again! They will be eerily drawn to the flickering orange candles haunting the table, and then you can ask them how their day was while you have their attention.
Look for more decorating ideas later this month!
